Tang Horse and Rider

Terracotta Tang figure; 7th Century AC; surviving traces of polychromy

This terracotta Tang figurine with surviving traces of polychromy suffered a breakage in a place of an old repair.

Residues of an old adhesive were removed from the breakage on the head as well as on the neck of the figure. The head was then re-adhered with an acrylic adhesive. Areas around the joint were filled with a pigmented fine surface filler and carefully stabilised. Finally, the new fills were retouched using various pigments and acrylics to blend with the original patination.
