Nimrud Ivory

Ivory panel relief, Assyrian period; northern Iraq; middle 9th to late 8th century BC

Some sections are fragile or broken; the ivory was broken in the past and consequently treated

Treatment: fragile areas and broken sections were adhered with Paraloid B72 in white spirit; white spirit is a hydrocarbon solvent which is appropriate to use on hydroscopic materials such as ivory
