17th Century Plaster Ceiling

Historic plaster ceiling decorated with orange trees (17th Century); more contemporary frieze with unicorns & lions; The Orange Chamber, Aston Hall, Birmingham

The historic plaster ceiling contained 15 layers of monochrome paint that were obscuring the original design of the ceiling. The aim of this treatment was to remove the paint and reveal the original decorative design of the ceiling and the frieze. All layers were carefully removed taking utmost care to reveal all the original decorative scheme. All the detailing was successfully revealed and a new monochrome layer was evenly applied to the cleaned surface.
