Bust of Matthew Boulton

Portrait bust of Matthew Boulton, 1815, by John Flaxman, Carrara marble

The marble bust was soiled and required conservation. Several conservation cleaning techniques were used to remove surface soiling. The treatment was undertaken as this bust was required for display in an exhibition celebrating 200 years anniversary of the death of Matthew Boulton (Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery; now Birmingham Museums Trust).
